‘In 1998 a local East Timorese Islamic preacher, Mohammad Syaifuddin (Francisco), took Dominggus to Indonesia. He had just finished high school in Baucau. A teacher at the school from East Java organised his fees for him to study at the Muhammadiyah University in Gresik, East Java.

He wrote to me in 2003 from East Java.I have two daughters but he is my only son. My husband was killed during the war in the 1970s.
